McGee: How I'd play Golden Gate Fields on Sunday, May 1
Deuces could be wild (and fast) early on the Sunday card at Golden Gate Fields, as I’ll be singling a couple of horses carrying saddlecloth No. 2 in the pick five sequence that opens the nine-race program while also including the other No. 2s in the surrounding races.
High-percentage trainer John Martin has two entries in the opener, but CHAOTIC BEHAVIOR may have the edge in experience/recency/class over stablemate ROSE AMONG THORNS.
The other single is one of the many Southern California horses making a trip northward in the absence of Santa Anita or Del Mar being open for live racing: LILY KAI, who comes well drawn after running well twice at Santa Anita for this same condition for Mike Machowsky.
The other pick five races look pretty deep, and therefore the ample coverage.
Here’s the play:
R1 – 2
R2 – 2, 3, 6, 8
R3 – 2, 4, 5, 8
R4 – 2
R5 – 2, 3, 4, 5, 6
50-cent ticket = $40
