If you believe DAREDEVIL (1) lays over the Swale field (R10) on class (like I do), then the horizontal wagers at the end of the Saturday card at Gulfstream become a bit simpler.

I’ll use Daredevil as a free space in the middle of a pick five that looks like this:

Race 8 – 2, 3, 4, 6, 11
Race 9 – 3
Race 10 – 1
Race 11 – 2, 4, 5, 6, 9
Race 12 – 5, 8, 11

50-cent ticket = $37.50

Short notes

Race 8 – Carl Nafzger couldn’t find a suitable dirt race for MAKIN’ SENSE (2) earlier in the month, hence the turf drubbing (and the filly needed the race). Besides, FEATHERED (4) seems worth spreading against.

Race 9 – Using just one horse in what seems a wide-open first-level allowance may be seen by some as a setup for failure, but none of these others have the back-class and terrific recent form that DAD’Z LAUGH (3) brings to this. All in.

Race 11 – Was NIGHT PROWLER (6) a bit fortunate to win the Dania Beach? He seems worth spreading against.
