McGee: Gulfstream Park pick four for Sunday, Dec. 10
Here’s a pick-four play to end the Sunday card at Gulfstream in which I’ll be relying on Jorge Navarro to have Can’t Say No ready to roll in race 9 after the flashy first-out winner was regrouped over at Gulf West following a disappointing loss in his most recent start in October.
I’ll single Can’t Say No in race 9 while surrounding him with an assortment of logical winners and longshots in the other three races in the sequence. (Obviously, this ticket can be extended to include your preferences in earlier races, i.e., with a Rainbow 6 ticket in race 5 or a pick five in race 6.)
Here’s a quick synopsis of each race:
Race 7: Unless word spreads that one of the first-timers is extremely live, the likely favorite here is Treasure in Heaven (3) off that solid debut in the Keeneland slop for Brian Lynch. Still, this MSW sprint for 2-year-old fillies has a wide-open look to it, so I’m compelled to use the “other Lynch,” Dreams Are Free (4), at a bigger price, along with beginners Show Girl (2), Muchacha Uno (5), Miss Surprise (6), and Sara Street (7).
Race 8: Inside stalking trips are on order for the inside pair of English Minister (1) and Second Mate (2) as they look to overtake Total Joint (9) in this N2X turf allowance.
Race 9: If Can’t Say No (1) runs back to his August debut for prior connections, this one could be over by the time these 2-year-old starters hit the furlong pole. Navarro has taken his time while putting this one through a series of solid works at GPW; he’ll be adding blinkers and Gaffalione when looking to put his rail draw to immediate advantage.
Race 10: Although the logical plays in this maiden-claiming turf finale are Nonno Nino (2), Stuck With You (5), Go Hippo Go (8), and Revolving Son (11), I’ll be hoping for a stranger such as Berlin Rocket (1) or Mac Creiche (12) to blow up the ticket.
This is the straight-A play:
R7 – 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7
R8 – 1, 2, 9
R9 – 1
R10 – 1, 2, 5, 8, 11, 12
50-cent ticket = $54
