McGee: Del Mar pick three play for Wednesday, Sept. 2
Having taken a long look at the pick 5 and decided races 4 and 5 were just too difficult to keep going, I stopped with a pick 3 caveman play to open the Wednesday card at Del Mar.
I’ll be relying on either CADET RONI (1) or ALEXITA (3) to get things started in the opener. The former didn’t beat much in her latest when she got eligible for this condition by competing for a tag, but she really came alive in that first attempt over the surface. Alexita figures to sit a nice trip under Joe Talamo behind plenty of speed when adding blinkers in the third race of her form cycle.

In race 2, I’m looking for either of a pair of outside-drawn fillies, FORTHENINETEEN (7) and LATE ‘N LEFT (8) to improve substantially over disappointing local starts. The former adds blinkers after having gotten away poorly from an inside post as a 9-5 shot in her debut for a trainer (Ben Cecil) having a decent meet from limited starts. The latter now has two useful races (and five subsequent works) under her belt while more favorably drawn this time for the ever-capable team of Tyler Baze and Mike Puype.
As for race 3, well, it’s a scatter-shot that uses six of nine in the main body, leaving out only a trio who’d have to move up dramatically to foil a live ticket.
The play
R1 – 1, 3
R2 – 7, 8
R3 – 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9
$1 ticket = $24
