McGee: Del Mar pick three play for Wednesday, Aug. 26

I’ll be relying on WORLDWIDE (7) to come through as a lukewarm favorite in the anchor leg (race 6) of this mid-card pick three. Worldwide makes his second start off a brief layoff for the Ron Ellis stable, which is particularly effective (35 percent, $3.21 ROI) with this kind of move.

I’ll get started in race 4 with four of the nine starters (1, 2, 3, 9) while purposely omitting Empty Headed (may be overbet with Mike Smith up) and Persuasive Paul (might well need a race). In race 4, I’ll leave out M/L fave Kiss At Midnight (likely underlay with that minor stakes on her PPs) while otherwise playing it protectively with six horses.
