McGee: Del Mar pick four play for Saturday, July 28
Trying to leverage the opinion that Roy H will be able to overcome a four-month layoff in proving he’s still the king of the North American sprint division, I’ll dive into the late pick four on Saturday at Del Mar using him as a single in the Grade 1 Bing Crosby (Race 9). Here’s the play:
Race 7: While simply trying to stay alive and assuming a too-fast pace will be the undoing of a fresh What a View (and also believing Soi Phet does his best work on dirt), I’ll give the best chances to Pee Wee Reese (4) and Well Developed (9), both of whom probably will have to assume stalking roles, as well as logical closers Grecian Fire (2), Ashleyluvssugar (3), and B Squared (8).
Race 8: Beyer-wise and otherwise, this N2L $16,000 claiming sprint appears to boil down to Broome (3), Topaz Time (6), and Neon Gypsy (9).
Race 9: The pride of the Pete Miller stable, Roy H (3) should be a decent price amid skepticism of how the long trip to Dubai may have affected him. Still, his typical effort should make him tough to beat.
Race 10: Not unexpectedly, this two-turn turf race for 2-year-olds sports a wide-open look, but I’ve got it narrowed down to this half-dozen: Biz Nasty (2), More Ice (3), Ocean Fury (7), Forloveofcountry (8), Alleva (10), and Tariq (12).
Here’s the straight-A ticket:
R7: 2, 3, 4, 8, 9
R8: 3, 6, 9
R9: 3
R10: 2, 3, 7, 8, 10, 12
50-cent ticket = $45
