McFeely by a head in John Henry Stakes

McFeely became a stakes winner Saturday night when he edged Harlan Selection by a head in the $50,000 John Henry at Evangeline Downs. It was another head back to third-place Late Night Mischief, who finished a neck in front of favorite In the Navy.
Mocito Rojo, a Grade 3 winner coming off a win in the $100,000 Evangeline Mile, was scratched from the race as it remained on turf. His connections entered in the event the race was moved to the main track. Mocito Rojo is being pointed for the Governor’s Cup on Aug. 23 at Remington Park, according to trainer Shane Wilson.
McFeely ($13.20) settled off the pace as Spiritual Warfare led the field through an opening quarter in 23.94 seconds and A Song for Arch took over through a half-mile in 49.47. The eventual winner battled in the stretch, covering the 1 1/16 miles on firm turf in 1:44.33.
Kerwin Clark was aboard for trainer John Ney. McFeely is a son of Scat Daddy who races for Oakwood Stables.
