Mc Vay to scratch from San Diego Handicap
:quality(75))
Mc Vay, third in the Grade 2 Hollywood Gold Cup at Santa Anita on May 25, will be withdrawn from Saturday’s Grade 2 San Diego Handicap at Del Mar, trainer Peter Eurton said on Thursday.
Eurton said Mc Vay could start at Del Mar in coming weeks.
“I’ll look a little deeper,” Eurton said. “I might look to travel.”
Owned by Lee and Susan Searing’s C R K Stable, Mc Vay drew the inside post in a field of seven in the $300,000 San Diego Handicap at 1 1/16 miles. The group is led by Journalism, the winner of the Grade 1 Preakness Stakes in 2025.
Mc Vay, a 5-year-old horse, has won 2 of 14 starts and earned $178,177. Earlier in his career, Mc Vay was third in the Grade 2 San Felipe Stakes for 3-year-olds at Santa Anita in 2024.
