Benoit Photo Maymun won his debut by 7 1/2 lengths, earning a 93 Beyer Speed Figure.

The highly impressive maiden race winner Maymun will have his first start around two turns in an allowance race for 3-year-olds at a mile on Sunday at Santa Anita.

Trained by Bob Baffert for Amr Zedan, Maymun won his debut in an emphatic style on Jan. 20, leading throughout a race at 6 1/2 furlongs. Maymun pulled clear to win by 7 1/2 lengths, finishing in 1:15.59. He earned a robust Beyer Speed Figure of 93.

Jockey Juan Hernandez rode Maymun that day and has the mount Sunday in the sixth race on a nine-race program that begins at 11 a.m. Pacific to allow completion of the card before kickoff of the Super Bowl at 3:30 p.m.

Maymun, by Frosted, is part of a field of six. He was the 9-10 favorite when he beat maidens and will be an odds-on choice again Sunday.

A win on Sunday is likely to propel Maymun into a major stakes for 3-year-olds in coming weeks.

Baffert also starts Imagination, a colt by Into Mischief who won a maiden race at a mile in his third start on Jan. 1 by leading throughout under Hernandez. Flavien Prat has the mount on Sunday.

Other entrants include Last Call London, who won the King Glorious Stakes for statebred 2-year-old milers at Los Alamitos in December and was third in the California Cup Derby for statebreds at 1 1/16 miles on Jan. 13 at Santa Anita; and the first-time starter Revised Statute, a $1.8 million yearling purchase in 2022 who races for Pin Oak Stud and trainer Richard Mandella.

Revised Statute was the second-most expensive hip of the multi-day auction.

Revised Statute, who will be ridden by Mike Smith on Sunday, has worked quickly at times in the last month. He starts from the inside post in the small field.
