Maybe Jack, 12, dies at Gulf

Mike Welsch|Jan 22, 2005

The 12-year-old , one of the most popular horses to race at Gulfstream Park over the last several years, died of an apparent heart attack following Saturday's first race at Gulfstream. Maybe Jack was owned by his trainer, Edwin Broome.

Maybe Jack won 35 races and earned more than $500,000 over a career that spanned 122 starts. A son of Classic Account, Maybe Jack won two races from nine starts as an 11-year-old in 2004 after capturing four races in 10 tries as a 10-year-old the previous season. He had won five times and finished on the board in 14 of his 16 starts at Gulfstream.

"He was one of the most beloved horses around here," said track veterinarian Mary Scollay. "This was really sad."
