Lil Indy, the dam of multiple Grade 1 winner Maximum Security, will be offered during the Keeneland November breeding stock sale, along with a weanling full sister to her top runner. Lil Indy and her weanling, both consigned by Lane's End, as agent, will be offered during the opening session of the sale on Wednesday, Nov. 6. Keeneland November, which pushed back its start by one day to allow for additional turn-around time for horses and people following the Breeders' Cup, runs through Nov. 17. Lil Indy, a winning daughter of Anasheed, is a half-sister to multiple Grade 1 winner Flat Out. The mare was purchased by Ben Glass, acting as agent for Gary and Mary West, for $80,000 out of the 2014 Keeneland January horses of all ages sale in order to support the Wests' young stallion New Year's Day, the 2013 Breeders' Cup Juvenile winner who entered stud in 2014 at Hill 'n' Dale Farm. Lil Indy delivered colts by New Year's Day in 2015 and 2016, and a colt by their stallion Flashback in 2018 before the Wests sold her for $11,000 carrying a New Year's Day filly to Triple Crown at last year's Keeneland November breeding stock sale. She was subsequently exported to Korea, where she delivered her New Year's Day filly in late March. New Year's Day was sold in 2018 to Brazilian interests before being purchased by Japanese interests this year. :: DRF BREEDING LIVE: Real-time coverage of breeding and sales Two days after his full sister's birth, Maximum Security remained unbeaten in four career starts by winning the Grade 1 Florida Derby. The SF Bloodstock group acted quickly to secure and repatriate Lil Indy and her filly. They arrived in Kentucky prior to the Kentucky Derby, in which Maximum Security crossed the line first but was disqualified to 17th for interference. Over the summer, Maximum Security finished second in the Pegasus Stakes and won the Grade 1 Haskell Invitational. Lil Indy will be offered in foal to Quality Road, among this year's leading general sires, on a May 17 cover. “Lil Indy, in foal on one cover to Quality Road, and her weanling full sister to Maximum Security are special offerings that are keys to future success,” SF Bloodstock’s Tom Ryan said in a release. “As the dam of Maximum Security, Lil Indy is a proven producer of a top-class horse. This year, Maximum Security has five triple-digit Beyer numbers – more than any other 3-year-old – while he has beaten a number of outstanding horses.” The catalog for the November breeding stock sale is available on Keeneland's website, with 4,549 broodmares, weanlings, racing or broodmare prospects, and racing or stallion prospects cataloged for the 12-session sale. This year's first-crop covering sires are led by 2018 Triple Crown winner Justify, who has 17 mares in foal cataloged. That group includes 2014 Eclipse Award champion 2-year-old filly Take Charge Brandi, who was the most expensive horse sold at public auction in North America in 2015 when she fetched $6 million at Keeneland November, going to Hill 'n' Dale, which consigns her this year.
