Maximum Security's connections running Final Jeopardy in Peter Pan

ELMONT, N.Y. – A week after their Maximum Security was disqualified from first in the Kentucky Derby, owners Gary and Mary West and trainer Jason Servis are back in another stakes for 3-year-olds as they send out Final Jeopardy in the Grade 3, $300,000 Peter Pan on Saturday at Belmont Park.

Final Jeopardy was one of just five horses entered in the Peter Pan, a one-turn 1 1/8-mile race that frequently produces runners for the Belmont Stakes.

Final Jeopardy was attempting to qualify for the Kentucky Derby in the Wood Memorial at Aqueduct on April 6, but he got bounced around early in the race, dropped back to last, and made a belated to run to finish sixth, 11 1/2 lengths behind winner Tacitus.

“When that horse came over on us, we knew we were toast,” said Ben Glass, racing manager for the Wests. “He made up a lot of ground – we were happy with that. Unlike Maximum Security, who came out of the Derby with several cuts and abrasions, we were happy that Final Jeopardy didn’t have anything physically wrong with him.”

Final Jeopardy figures to get a clear trip from post 5 under Irad Ortiz Jr., who is 2 for 2 on the colt.

Intrepid Heart, who has won both of his starts, drew the rail and will be followed in post-position order by Federal Case, Global Campaign, Sir Winston, and Final Jeopardy.

The Peter Pan will go as race 4 on the card.

In other stakes Saturday:

◗ Competitionofideas, the winner of the Grade 1 American Oaks last December, makes her 4-year-old debut in the Grade 3, $200,000 Beaugay Stakes for fillies and mares at 1 1/16 miles on turf.

Competitionofideas, trained by Chad Brown for Klaravich Stables, will be ridden by Joel Rosario from post 3. The field includes Chipolata, Andina Del Sur, Matty’s Magnum, Homerique, and Binti Al Nar, a German-bred making her North American debut.

◗ Separationofpowers, a Grade 1 winner at 2 and 3, makes her 4-year-old debut in the Grade 3, $200,000 Vagrancy Handicap. Separationofpowers won the Grade 1 Test last summer at Saratoga and has not run since finishing fourth in the Grade 1 Cotillion at Parx last Sept. 22.

Separationofpowers will be the 120-pound highweight under Jose Ortiz. From the rail out, the field is Pacific Gale, Heavenhasmynikki, Dawn the Destroyer, Separationofpowers, and Holiday Disguise.

◗ Firenze Fire, a multiple stakes winner at Belmont, and Skyler’s Scramjet head a field of six entered for the $150,000 Runhappy Stakes.
