Maxfield returns to the work tab

Maxfield, the undefeated Godolphin homebred, had his first breeze since recovering from injury, going three furlongs in 37.40 seconds on Sunday over a fast track at Keeneland.
Maxfield was prepping for the Blue Grass Stakes when he suffered a condylar fracture of his right front in a June 10 workout at Keeneland. Following surgery, the Street Sense colt returned to light training at Churchill in mid-September before trainer Brendan Walsh sent him to Keeneland in early October.
Walsh said he has no particular comeback spot in mind for Maxfield, whose 3-for-3 record includes wins in the Breeders’ Futurity last fall and the Matt Winn in May in his only 2020 start.
◗ Kurt Becker, the only race-caller in Keeneland history, missed closing day after testing positive for the coronavirus. Keeneland said Becker has experienced “only mild symptoms” and is expected back in time for the Nov. 6-7 Breeders’ Cup. Travis Stone, the Churchill announcer, called the races in his absence Saturday.
