Matrooh once again back off long vacation

Matrooh wins the Bold Ruler
Adam Coglianese/NYRA Matrooh won the Grade 3 Bold Ruler at Belmont (above) and then took third in the Grade 1 Cigar Mile.

OZONE PARK, N.Y. – Matrooh, the winner of the Grade 3 Bold Ruler in the fall of 2015, returns from a 13-month layoff Sunday in a $78,000 allowance/optional claimer going a mile at Aqueduct.

Matrooh, a 7-year-old gelding by Distorted Humor, has raced only 13 times. He began his career in Britain in 2013 before coming to the U.S. He came back from a 17-month layoff to win a first-level allowance race going a mile at Gulfstream in March 2015.

Later that year, he won a pair of allowance races before finishing sixth in the Grade 3 Iselin Stakes at Monmouth. He came off a two-month layoff to win the Bold Ruler before finishing third, beaten a half-length, in the Grade 1 Cigar Mile.

His most recent race was a fourth-place finish in the Grade 3 Hal’s Hope at Gulfstream in January 2016. Trained by Chad Brown, he shows nine works for his return.

Matrooh is coupled with Muqtaser, owned by Shadwell Stable and trained by Kiaran McLaughlin.

Also entered in the race are Doyouknowsomething, Ostrolenka, Mr Palmer, and Adirondack King.
