Masteroffoxhounds works five furlongs in San Luis Rey prep

Masteroffoxhounds, the winner of the Grade 2 San Marcos Stakes on Feb. 6 in his American stakes debut, worked five furlongs on the Santa Anita training track in 1:01.20 on Sunday in preparation for Saturday’s Grade 3 San Luis Rey Stakes.
The $100,000 San Luis Rey Stakes, run at 1 1/2 miles on turf, is the lone graded stakes at Santa Anita next weekend.
Trained by Richard Baltas for Rockingham Ranch, Masteroffoxhounds has won two of three starts since arriving from Ireland last summer. In the San Marcos Stakes at 1 1/4 miles on turf, Masteroffoxhounds stalked the pace and won by 1 1/4 lengths over Acclimate, another contender for the San Luis Rey Stakes.
Acclimate worked five furlongs in 1:01.40 on the main track on Sunday.
Other candidates for the San Luis Rey are the four-time stakes winner United and Say the Word. United was eighth in the Breeders’ Cup Turf at Keeneland last November in his most recent start.
