Master Spy never looks back in Cup and Saucer

ETOBICOKE, Ontario -- The favored Master Spy went straight to the front and never looked by to capture the 84th running of the $250,400 Cup and Saucer Stakes on Saturday at Woodbine.
Master Spy was pressed by Credit River to his inside early in the 1 1/16-mile turf route, before the son of Silent Name assumed command on the turn after splits of 24 and 48.11.
Threefiftyseven took a run at Master Spy in the stretch, but Master Spy repelled the challenge and drew off to prevail by 3 1/4 lengths, in a time of 1:42.67 over the firm ground.

Patrick Husbands rode Master Spy for leading trainer Mark Casse, who has won the Cup and Saucer five times.
“By the time I left the gates, he was relaxed,” Husbands said. “He was never rank at all. I just feel that everything went my way. He’s a nice horse.”
Master Spy ($7.30) earned $150,000 for owner Tracy Farmer, who paid $72,000 for him at the 2019 Keeneland September yarling sales. Bred by Bernard and Karen McCormack, the colt is a half-brother to stakes winners Cool Catomine and Wild Catomine.
