Marketsegmentation outruns Consumer Spending in Beaugay

Marketsegmentation won the Grade 3, $175,000 Beaugay by 2 1/2 lengths over Consumer Spending on Sunday to give owner Klaravich Stable and trainer Chad Brown the exacta in the first of two turf stakes run at Belmont Park.
Bubble Rock ($8.30) won the $150,000 License Fee.
Marketsegmentation ($5) tracked the pace set by Evvie Jets, who took the field through fractions of 24.06 seconds for the opening quarter, 48.43 for the half-mile and 1:11.99. Marketsegmentation overook that one and went on to cover the 1 1/16 miles for fillies and mares on firm turf in 1:41.25 and getting a 95 Beyer Speed Figure.
“Last time, she missed the break and she was uncomfortable the whole way in between horses and checking back and forth, but she still got the job done,” winning rider Irad Ortiz Jr. told the publicity office for the New York Racing Association.
“So, I just wanted to make her life a little easier today. I didn’t want to give her too much to do. I helped her at the break and she gave me the first jump, so I [went] for it and I sat second in a stalking position, biding my time and waiting for the time to go. She was there for me.”
Marketsegmentation has now won 4 of 6 starts for earnings of $308,730. She was winning her second stakes. Marketsegmentation is a daughter of American Pharoah.
Surprisingly ran third, finishing a neck behind Consumer Spending.
Bubble Rock closed into fractions of 21.66 seconds for the opening quarter and 45.33 for the half-mile to win the License Fee by a half-length over Poppy Flower. It was another 1 1/4 lengths back in third to Goin’ Good.
Bubble Rock covered six furlongs on firm turf in 1:08.61.
Joel Rosario was aboard for trainer Brad Cox. Bubble Rock is a daughter of More Than Ready who races for her breeder, Shortleaf Stable. She was winning her fourth stakes race and overall has compiled a record of five wins from 12 starts for earnings of $618,943.
Cox also is the trainer of third-place finisher Goin’ Good.
