Maritime Passion 2 for 2 after Shady Well

ETOBICOKE, Ontario - Maritime Passion extended her unbeaten record to two races Sunday at Woodbine with a decisive score in the $150,000 Shady Well Stakes, for Ontario-bred 2-year-old fillies.

Chantal Sutherland got Maritime Passion off the rail shortly after breaking from post 1, and she dueled with Shesadozer on the lead through the turn.

Maritime Passion opened up a daylight advantage early in the stretch, and then drew away in the stretch for a 3 3/4-length win over Noticin' You. Favored Elated Moon finished third in a field reduced to five because of the scratch of Peploe.

The final time for the 5 1/2 furlongs, 1:04.24, was just 0.24 of a second off the stakes record set by Bodust in 1989.

Maritime Passion ($5.40) earned $90,000 for owner Ben Hutzel and trainer Mike DePaulo.
