Marissa's Lady goes for fifth local stakes win in Wishing Well

Marissa’s Lady looks to add to her strong record at Turfway Park in Saturday night’s $125,000 Wishing Well Stakes for fillies and mares sprinting 6 1/2 furlongs on the Tapeta.
Marissa’s Lady, trained by William Morey, earned a career-high 92 Beyer Speed Figure winning the Holiday Inaugural Stakes last month, besting B G Warrior, who she faces again Saturday, by a neck. That ran her record at Turfway to four wins, all in stakes company, from five starts, as she also won the 2021 Gowell Stakes, 2022 Valdale Stakes, and 2022 Serena’s Song Stakes. Her only loss came when she attempted to stretch out to a mile and finished second in the 2022 Cincinnati Trophy.
Marissa’s Lady, who will have Gerardo Corrales aboard, likes to be on or prompting the pace. She could have company up front from B G Warrior, who also is fond of Turfway. B G Warrior crossed the line first but was disqualified to second in the 2022 Gowell, then took the 2023 Valdale. She has placed in three other stakes here.
Loyalty, in from Woodbine for Josie Carroll, would like to be prompting that pace. The consistent mare won the Grade 3 Hendrie and Grade 2 Bessarabian last year at her home track.
Glyshaw has final runners
Tim Glyshaw will close a chapter of his career Saturday night at Turfway Park when he sends out his final two starters as a trainer before assuming the role of executive director of the Indiana Horsemen’s Benevolent and Protective Association on Feb. 1.

Glyshaw will saddle Leo’s Roar in the second race and Lieutenant Kitty in the ninth race. Fittingly, both runners are Indiana-breds.
Glyshaw, 55, is a native of Evansville, Ind., and bases his stable at Churchill Downs. According to Equibase statistics, he saddled his first runner in 2004 and comes into this weekend having trained the winners of 552 races for purse earnings of more than $15.7 million. His runners have won 30 stakes races.
“The wins speak for themselves, but I can proudly say we always did right by our horses having no medication violations in 20 years,” Glyshaw told Churchill Downs publicity this week. “I love coming to the barn every day just to be with my horses and be around my staff. I couldn’t have gone this far in my career without great horses that were sent to me by loyal owners and cared for by a dedicated staff.”
Glyshaw’s top runners included multiple graded stakes winner Bullards Alley, who gave the trainer a Grade 1 win in the 2017 Canadian International; and Bucchero, whose seven stakes scores included back-to-back wins in the Grade 2 Woodford at Keeneland.
Along with seven-time Indiana stakes winner Unreachable Star, and multiple stakes winners Pearl Tiara, Taptowne, and Two Last Words, Glyshaw’s noteworthy trainees included Ready’s Rocket, who won a record 11 races at Churchill Downs from 2008-12. The mark was tied last year by Bango.
“He was such a gutsy horse and had a ton of heart,” Glyshaw said. “You can’t train heart into a horse. Ready had that and more.”
