Mariah’s Galaxy upsets Magnolia Stakes

Mariah’s Galaxy darted to a four-length win over Remember Daisy in the $100,000 Magnolia on Friday night at Delta Downs. It was another 2 3/4 lengths back in third to Special Blessing.
The Magnolia was a mile race for fillies and mares bred in Louisiana. It also served as the first stakes of the Delta meet, which opened Tuesday.
Mariah’s Galaxy ($32.60) settled off the pace as Fleet Halo took the field through an opening quarter in 23.67 seconds, a half-mile in 48.22 and six furlongs in 1:13.08. Mariah’s Galaxy went on to cover the distance on a fast track in 1:39.72.
Kevin Smith was aboard for trainer Victor Arceneaux.
Mariah’s Galaxy is a daughter of Greeley’s Galaxy who races for Riley Blanchet and Todd Matte. She was winning her second stakes and earned $60,000. She improved her career record to 8 wins from 22 starts for earnings of $242,485.
The Saturday night card at Delta features the $100,000 Gold Cup for 3-year-olds and up bred in Louisiana.
