Mare to race after losing foal

Gleefully, a Grade 3 winner last year in California before retiring for a broodmare career, will return to racing.

Gleefully fell victim to the Kentucky foal crisis and will re-enter training after losing her first foal, sired by Breeders' Cup Classic winner Awesome Again. Trainer Eric Kruljac said Gleefully was 45 days into her term at a farm in Lexington when she aborted. Gleefully was scheduled to return to California on Friday and begin training for a late-summer comeback at Del Mar.

Gleefully won the Yerba Buena Handicap at Golden Gate, and the CTT/TOC Handicap at Del Mar last year, and retired having won six races and $347,768 from 23 starts. "She retired sound, so we should be able to bring her back," Kruljac said. Owned by Carl Brown, Gleefully was at her best in marathon races. Her two stakes wins last year in California were at 1 3/8 miles. A daughter of Septieme Ciel, Gleefully has won at five different tracks, including Hollywood Park, Turf Paradise, and Lone Star.
