Many maidens in lineups for Aspirant, Lady Finger
Finger Lakes has a pair of six-furlong stakes for 2-year-olds Saturday, the $127,063 Aspirant for colts and geldings and the $141,675 Lady Finger for fillies. The two races couldn’t be more different.
The Aspirant, carded as the seventh-race feature, has a field of six, five of whom are maidens.
The fourth-race Lady Finger has 15 entrants, including an also-eligible. Granted, only three of the runners have won.
Aspirant Stakes, Race 7
KEY CONTENDERS
Summer Brother (Last 2 Beyers: 52-49)
The lone winner in the field, he earned a 52 Beyer Speed Figure by winning an open Finger Lakes maiden race on Aug. 18 in his second career start for trainer Mike Ferraro.
In his debut, he tired to finish sixth in a New York-bred maiden race at Saratoga.
Tiz Time to Shine (Last Beyer: 64)
Chad Brown-trained son of Tiznow will be favored off his third-place finish in a statebred maiden race at Saratoga in his Aug. 10 debut. He was the 7-5 chalk in that race.
This will be Brown’s first starter ever at Finger Lakes.
Lady Finger, Race 4
KEY CONTENDERS
Evrybdymstgetstonz (Last 3 Beyers: 25-41-60)
Won first time out at Belmont Park for trainer Gary Contessa and has since finished a distant fourth in two starts at Saratoga, the Grade 3 Schuylerville and $196,000 Seeking the Ante for New York-breds.
She has good speed and is the horse to beat in what should be a competitive race.
DRF FORMULATOR FACT: Contessa is 1 for 9 (11 percent) at Finger Lakes with a return on investment of $0.62 the last five years. He won the New York Derby with Socialsaul in 2011 but is 0 for 8 since.
Tupungato (Last Beyer: 57)
She looks like the leading local hope after winning an open maiden race by nine lengths on Aug. 1 for trainer James Wright.
Irish Heroine (Last Beyer: 63)
Was second best at 18-1 in a New York-bred maiden race at Saratoga in her debut for trainer Michael Dilger.
DRF FORMULATAOR FACT: Dilger is 3 for 8 (38 percent) with an ROI of $11.87 with 2-year-olds making their second career start since he began training in 2013.
Ms Eileen (Last Beyer: 42)
Comes back on only 10 days’ rest after winning a $50,000 maiden claiming race on the lead in career debut for Lisa Lewis.
Dulce de Leche
First-time starter shows three bullet workouts at Mountaineer. Was shipped to Finger Lakes for her most recent work.
DRF FORMULATOR FACT: Trainer L. Craig Cox, a winner of 801 career races since 1986, has not sent out a 2-year-old first-time starter in the last five years. He has only had one first-time starter of any age during that time period.
