Manuka Honey to Pocahontas; Shred the Gnar sidelined

Manuka Honey followed up her blowout debut win over maidens with a similarly facile score Aug. 9 in the $250,000 Ellis Park Debutante.

Manuka Honey barely turned a hair drawing off to a seven-length score under Luis Saez. She earned a solid 75 Beyer Speed Figure and, a physically advanced filly, continues to look like a serious route prospect.

Her next start, trainer Brian Lynch said, comes Sept. 12 in the Pocahontas, a one-turn Churchill mile.

“Everything she does, seems to do quite comfortable, and she came out of the race great,” Lynch said.

Lynch also reported that Grade 1-winning filly Shred the Gnar is out of training with a soft-tissue injury.
