Tizamagician, fourth in the Grade 3 Robert Lewis Stakes for 3-year-olds at Santa Anita in February, is a candidate for the $100,000 Runhappy Oceanside Stakes on July 10 at Del Mar.

Friday at Santa Anita, Tizamagician worked five furlongs in 1:00 in a tune-up for the Oceanside, which is run at a mile on turf for 3-year-olds.

Tizamagician, trained by Richard Mandella, won a maiden special weight race at a mile on Jan. 1 at Santa Anita. In his only start since the Lewis Stakes, Tizamagician was fourth as the 7-5 favorite in an allowance race with a $40,000 claiming option against older horses at a mile on May 22 at Santa Anita.

Tizamagician was sent to Dubai for the Group 2 United Arab Emirates Derby on March 29 on the undercard of the Dubai World Cup program, but the races were canceled because of the coronavirus outbreak.

In the Oceanside, Mandella also plans to start Kanderel, winner of the Alcatraz Stakes for 3-year-olds on turf June 13 at Golden Gate Fields.

The Oceanside Stakes is the feature race on the opening day of the Del Mar summer meeting. The current Los Alamitos summer meeting concludes July 5.

Mandella plans to have a busy stretch in mid-July with stakes horses at two venues.

United, second to 2019 Horse of the Year Bricks and Mortar in the Breeders’ Cup Turf at Santa Anita last November, is a candidate for the Grade 2 Eddie Read Stakes at 1 1/8 miles on turf on July 19 at Del Mar.

United is unbeaten in two starts this year, both Grade 2 stakes at 1 1/4 miles on turf at Santa Anita – the San Marcos Stakes in February and the Charles Whittingham Stakes on May 23. United was sent to Dubai for the Group 1 Sheema Classic on March 29.

The $200,000 Read Stakes will be the shortest start for United since he won an optional claimer at that distance last July at Del Mar.

“It might be good to sharpen him up a little bit,” Mandella said.

Jolie Olimpica, winner of the Grade 2 Monrovia Stakes for fillies and mares at 5 1/2 furlongs on May 25 at Santa Anita for Mandella, is scheduled to be sent to Keeneland for the Group 1 Jenny Wiley Stakes for fillies and mares at 1 1/16 miles on turf on July 11.
