Mandatory pick six payout boosts handle to $17.5 million
Boosted by a mandatory payout in the 20-cent Rainbow pick six, Saturday’s 10-race program at Santa Anita had an all-sources handle of $17,571,849, the second-highest in the first seven weeks of the meeting.
All-sources handle on the opening-day program on Dec. 26 was $23,003,159.
The pick six pool on Saturday was $5,316,575. The program began with a carryover of $898,062.
The pick six is structured to have a carryover if there is more than one winning ticket, a format that changes only when the track announces a mandatory payout. There has been a single winning ticket once at the current meeting – worth $323,024 on Dec. 31.
There were four winning tickets Sunday, each worth $17,312, leaving a carryover of $29,679 in the single-ticket pool for Friday.
