Mandatory payouts for Monday card at Pimlico
There will be mandatory payouts on the Rainbow 6, late pick five, and Super Hi 5 at Pimlico on Monday, the final day of a 12-day meet.
There will be a carryover of $279,837 in the Rainbow 6, which will function like a normal pick six. Normally, the Rainbow 6 carryover is paid out only when there is a single winning ticket, but on Monday tickets picking the most winners will split the pool. The minimum wager will remain 20 cents.
There will be a carryover of $8,174 in the 50-cent late pick five, which has a 12 percent takeout. There will be rolling Super Hi 5's Monday, and if nobody picks the top five finishers in order, a consolation will be paid.
The Baltimore weather forecast calls for a 65 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms Sunday night, and then clearing on Monday.
The Rainbow 6 and late pick five carryovers were supposed to be up for grabs Sunday but the card was canceled after a thunder and lightning storm passed through the area following race 4.
The Rainbow 6 was scheduled to start on race 5. The late pick five would have started in race 6 of the 10-race card. Both pools were refunded.
Race 5 had been scheduled for 3:12 p.m. but was canceled at 4:20 p.m.
At first, it was announced that races 6 and 8 would be transferred from turf to the main track. But the storm turned the main track sloppy and the track crew was still working on the surface when the decision to cancel was made.
Sal Sinatra, president of the Maryland Jockey Club, walked the track with several jockeys prior to the decision.
"For the safety of our horses and horsemen, we decided to suspend racing for the day," Sinatra said. “Track maintenance crews went out as soon as they were able and did a commendable job with the surface, but with the prospect of more heavy rain coming we felt it was in everyone's best interests to cancel."
Consolation payouts were made on the daily double, which began on race 4; the pick three that started on race 3; the pick four that began in race 2; and the early pick five that began on race 1.
There were refunds in the pick three and pick four, which started on race 4.
