The Ultimate 6 Jackpot at Tampa Bay Downs has proven as elusive as Powerball. Unlike Powerball, however, the entirety of Tampa’s Ultimate 6 pool is guaranteed to be distributed on Wednesday when the track conducts a nine-race Christmas Eve program beginning at 12:35 p.m. There has yet to be a sole winner of the Ultimate 6 – which requires bettors to select the winner of the last six races on a card – since the meet began on Nov. 19, and there is a $29,100 carryover entering Wednesday’s sequence. Last year, on Christmas Eve, the Ultimate 6 Jackpot pool reached $239,760 when there was a $46,790 carryover entering the card with a mandatory payout. Hitting the wager, a 20-cent minimum base bet, will not be as lucrative as nailing the Powerball but will be equally as challenging with races 4 through 9 consisting of large and/or difficult fields. Here’s a look at the sequence: Race 4: Not much form to go on in this maiden $16K claimer for 2-year-old fillies on turf. Missus Seki, out of the New Zealand-bred mare Katana who won on turf for Bobby Frankel in 2005, takes another class drop while moving from synthetic to turf. Trainer Matthew Kintz struck with such a move here in 2022 with Yo Yo Mon who won a maiden $16K claimer on turf at 12-1. Caparbia finished ahead of Missus Seki when those two were third and fifth, respectively, in a maiden special weight at Presque Isle Downs. Trainer Ron Potts is a modest 6 for 46 with a $1.13 ROI with synthetic-to-turf moves. :: Celebrating 100 Years of racing at Tampa Bay Downs! DRF Past Performances and Picks are available now. Juan Arriagada, the second-leading trainer at the meet with seven wins from 23 starters, sends out the first-time starter She’s the Rage, a daughter of debut-winning and three-time Grade 1 winner Raging Bull. She’s the Rage’s dam Dynamizzen was a two-time winner on turf. Race 5: Going with a couple of New York-breds in Happy Instead and Limit Up in this $6,250 claimer at six furlongs. Happy Instead, trained by Anthony Ferraro, finished fourth in a pair of productive statebred allowance races at Finger Lakes, has a steady work tab since arriving at Tampa, and drew a nice outside post. Limit Up, trained by Jeffrey Englehart, finished sixth in his first start off a seven-month layoff, and that Oct. 27 race did produce two next-out winners as well as a next-out runner-up. Elusive d’Oro goes second off the claim for trainer Michael Simone, who is 17 for 89 with a $1.90 ROI in such a scenario the last three years (8 for 35 at Tampa). That includes a victory by If I Were You earlier this meet. Race 6: Start to Win is a potential single in this maiden special weight race that attracted nine 3-year-olds scheduled to run seven furlongs on the main track. Start to Win, a son of Upstart now in the barn of Arnaud Delacour, had three runner-up finishes from five starts when facing tougher on the Kentucky circuit when in the barn of Cherie DeVaux. Delacour also sends out Creed’s Vision, who looks to be facing stronger company here. Pacific Standard is coming off a runner-up finish in a similar spot as this going six furlongs on Nov. 29 for trainer Nic Goodwin, who is 3-2-0 from 10 starts at the meet. Race 7: In May, trainer Kevin Rice won a $6,250 claimer at Presque Isle with Ramming Speed off a 649-day layoff. In this second-level allowance/optional $32,000 claimer Rice is scheduled to start Britain’s Kitten off a 754-day layoff. Britain’s Kitten is winless in six starts on turf but has two wins in off-the-turf races, including the 2022 Woodchopper Stakes at Fair Grounds. Fantasioso Pass, who finished third of four in his only turf start in Argentina, makes his U.S. debut for Victor Carrasco in here. Tok Tok, still seeking his 2-year-old stakes-winning form of 2023, makes just his second start off a 21-month layoff. Trainer Graham Motion removes blinkers. Race 8: A headscratcher of a $5,000 claimer where the 9-year-old Litigant tries to post back-to-back wins for the first time in nearly five years. Coalminer’s Kitten got a perfect setup winning at Fairmount Park last out but could get it again today. Looking for an outsider/price? How about Norfie, who did win here in January coming off a similar ugly looking line off his previous race. If not him, then perhaps Bold Looker, who may appreciate shortening up to seven furlongs. Race 9: Real Savvy didn’t have cleanest of trips though he did save all the ground when sixth at Aqueduct in most recent start. Trainer Miguel Clement has spotted his horses well thus far at the young Tampa meet and leading rider Samuel Marin will be aboard. Marin jumped off Persisten to ride Real Savvy, and now Persisten gets the services of Samy Camacho after a runner-up finish in a similar spot as this on Nov. 26. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
