Mandatory-payout Rainbow 6 play for Sunday, Jan. 28, 2024
?q=100)
RACE 6: Off a victory over $16,000 nonwinners-of-three stock, MOST WANTED MAN (#3) seems nicely spotted in this open $10,000 claimer and could double up with Irad Ortiz Jr. back aboard. TIDAL FORCES (#5) is dropping off a cliff following a layoff, a win, and a $32,000 (Canadian) claim at Woodbine. It appears that he missed a recent work and is the type of dicey favorite who should be used defensively. BACKWOODS BOOGIE (#1) could be the lone speed. (3)
RACE 7: OSCARWORTHY (#2) is coming off a much-improved work on the Palm Meadows turf. The son of Oscar Performance (who won the Grade 1 Woodbine Mile under Jose Ortiz) is strongly bred for the grass and goes for red-hot trainer Brian Lynch. GUN BARREL CITY (#7), a regally bred son of Frankel, has worked decently on the dirt at Palm Beach Downs of late for Todd Pletcher. AIR INVASION (#12) has been saddled with an outside post but was competitive in one of two turf starts and is adding Lasix. DEVIL’S PLAYGROUND (#5) and FILM ACADEMY (#9) are two more possibilities. (5)
RACE 8: MAUNA KEA BOUND (#6) exceeded the Beyer par of 83 for this level twice when earning an 84 in two one-mile maiden specials at Del Mar. He splashed home on top in the slop in his local debut against Florida-bred/$40,000 maidens and could strike again with his confidence on a high. (1).
RACE 9: RACE CRAFT (#5) and FLY THE W (#4) are a pair of Tapeta freaks who are both exiting a victory traveling a mile and 70 yards around two turns here with a Beyer in the 90s. Nine furlongs seems within the range of both geldings. (2)
RACE 10: SPY HUNTER’s (#2) best race came on the Tapeta in a fast restricted allowance score, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see the son of hot young sire Bucchero take to the turf. PORTOFINO (#4) beat $50,000 starter types in his latest on the Tapeta and is no slouch on the grass. FAMOUS GENT (#1) rallied for third behind a next-out winner in an identical spot last out and should be a factor with Irad Ortiz Jr. subbing for brother Jose, who’s sticking with Portofino. (3)
RACE 11: HELLO HOLLYWOOD (#3) was marginally best over stablemate CELEBRITY RO (#5) when they worked from the gate in the mud Jan. 12 at Palm Meadows, and they both breezed five-eighths on the turf there a week later. Both are by good 14 percent debut/turf sire Oscar Performance, who was trained by Lynch. YES TO CHAMPAGNE (#9) is adding blinkers and Lasix off a front-running third in his first turf start and should be a speed threat. (3)
THE PLAY: 1, 3, 5 / 2, 5, 7, 9, 12 / 6 / 4, 5 / 1, 2, 4 / 3, 5, 9 = $54 ticket
