Jockey Edwin Maldonado won four of the 10 races at Santa Anita on Sunday, the third time in the last 11 years he has won four races on a card.
Maldonado, 40, won the first race on Jetovator ($4.80), the second on Virasana ($26.80), the ninth on Chicknfingerfriday ($7.20), and the 10th on Keen to Go ($11.60). Maldonado was second by a neck on Ever a Rebel in the fourth.
Jetovator and Virasana are trained by Peter Eurton, while Doug O’Neill trains Chicknfingerfriday and Keen to Go, who were both claimed.
Maldonado won four races at Santa Anita in January 2013 and at Los Alamitos in December 2015.
The four-win day moved Maldonado into sixth place in the standings with 24 wins. The Santa Anita meeting began Dec. 26 and continues through June 18.
Juan Hernandez is a clear leader in the standings with 68 wins, 37 more than runner-up Flavien Prat, who recently moved to Kentucky and will ride later this year in New York.
Top 10 riders Frankie Dettori, and John Velazquez have also left the meet. Luis Contreras and Kazushi Kimura, who were among the top 20 in the Santa Anita standings, have moved to Woodbine.
Contreras may return to Southern California for the Del Mar summer meeting, according to his agent, Mike Ciani.
Tyler Baze, who rode in Southern California as recently as late November at Del Mar, will return to the circuit in early May, according to his agent, Brandon O’Bryan.
Baze is riding at the winter-spring meeting at Oaklawn Park, where he has won seven races through Sunday.
