Frosted Grace, who went over $1 million in career earnings with his Saturday victory in the Grade 3, $500,000 Oaklawn Mile, could see stakes action later in the meet. Trainer Mike Maker said Monday plans for the horse are to be determined, but options include the $200,000 Lake Ouachita here May 3. Frosted Grace won the Oaklawn Mile by 1 1/2 lengths and for the effort, the 8-year-old earned a career-high Beyer Speed Figure of 101. “Very pleased with his race, obviously” Maker said. “Just an old classy horse, you wish you had a whole barnful of.” :: Bet the races with a $200 First Deposit Match + FREE All Access PPs! Maker said plans are to be determined for My Mane Squeeze, a three-time stakes winner against New York-breds who ran an uncharacteristic eighth as the favorite in the Grade 2 Fantasy on Saturday. “She came back well,” Maker said. “We haven’t made a plan for her. We’ll take her back to Kentucky and go from there.” My Mane Squeeze found herself farther off the pace than usual when breaking from the rail in the Fantasy. Maker said Misty Veil, who has been a mainstay in the filly and mare route division all season at Oaklawn, is set to make her next start in the Apple Blossom. Misty Veil last raced March 9 and was second by a neck in the Grade 2 Azeri. Prior to that start, she was third in the Grade 3 Bayakoa and won the Pippin. Maker also has a runner targeting another major festival stakes, the Grade 2, $1.25 million Oaklawn Handicap. He said Guntown is being pointed to the 1 1/8-mile race that runs April 20. “He just got beat a half-length in New York at the same distance,” Maker said. He claimed the horse for $80,000 out of an optional-claiming route March 21 at Aqueduct. Guntown is a son of Gun Runner and a half-brother to both champion Untapable, a past winner of the Apple Blossom, and Paddy O’Prado, a Grade 1 winner. “We’ll give it a shot,” Maker said of the Oakawn Handicap. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
