Majors Cast goes for glory in Lockinge

Majors Cast has been knocking on the door in some of the best mile races in the world during the past year. On Saturday at Newbury, he will have a golden opportunity to notch Group 1 laurels for the first time in a subpar renewal of the Lockinge Stakes.

Majors Cast was a short head second in the Group 2 Celebration Mile last August, then third in the Group 1 Prix du Moulin de Longchamp a week later. In the Breeders' Cup Mile he was fifth, beaten just two lengths for all the money. He prepped for the Lockinge's straight mile with a handy score in a seven-furlong listed event at Haydock on May 6, which should set him up perfectly for Saturday. His trainer, Jeremy Noseda, will give a leg up to Frankie Dettori.
