Majestic Oops keeps on truckin' through stretch to win American Beauty

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. - Majestic Oops became the second Breeders’ Cup Distaff starter to win their seasonal debut at Oaklawn Park in less than a week on Friday, darting to a 3 1/4-length victory over Asternia in the $150,000 American Beauty. It was another 1 1/4 lengths back in third to Benedetta.
The American Beauty was a six-furlong race for fillies and mares. Nitrogen, who was second in last year’s BC Distaff, launched her 4-year-old season last Saturday at Oaklawn and won the Grade 3 Bayakoa.
Majestic Oops ($6), who was ninth in the BC Distaff, began her 6-year-old season Friday. She settled off the pace as Gloriette and Asternia raced through fractions of 22.05 seconds for the opening quarter-mile and 45.31 for the half.
Majestic Oops began her advance on the final turn, came between rivals at the top of the stretch, and moved to the lead past the eighth pole. She increased her advantage from there, covering the distance on a fast track in 1:09.52.
Francisco Arrieta was aboard for trainer Dan Ward.
A daughter of the Rockport Harbor stallion Majestic Harbor, Majestic Oops is now a three-time stakes winner for the partnership of Medallion Racing, Evan Trommer, Agave Racing Stablem, and Sheila Regan.
