Main-track-only entrants may get their chance
You can tell there’s a good chance of rain in New Orleans from the four-strong list of main-track-only entrants in the fourth race Sunday at Fair Grounds.
The race is carded for one mile on turf and open to 3-year-old first-level allowance runners or $50,000 claimers, and it appears the strength of the group lies among the horses entered only to run on dirt.
Chief among that quartet are Mailman Money and Winning Impression, each of whom won a maiden race in his most recent start. Mailman Money was a debut winner over his Bret Calhoun-trained stablemate Digital in a sloppy-track Churchill Downs maiden sprint on Nov. 30 and was flattered when Digital returned to win a Dec. 28 Fair Grounds maiden with a 79 Beyer Speed Figure.
After two sprints, Mailman Money tried a two-turn race for the first time Dec. 21 at Fair Grounds and won a sloppy-track maiden race by more than three lengths, earning a 78 Beyer.
