ARCADIA, Calif. – Accuracy, a 15-length winner of a maiden race at 1 1/16 miles at Santa Anita on Saturday, will more than likely resurface in an allowance race in coming months, trainer Michael McCarthy said. Accuracy earned a Beyer Speed Figure of 108 for her win on Saturday, in 1:42.44. The only filly or mare with a higher speed figure this year on dirt is Thorpedo Anna, who was given a 111 for her second-place finish by a head to Fierceness in the Grade 1 Travers Stakes against 3-year-old males at 1 1/4 miles at Saratoga on Aug. 24. Thorpedo Anna, the winner of five Grade 1 or Grade 2 stakes this year, is rated as the nation’s leading 3-year-old filly and a contender for the Breeders’ Cup Distaff at Del Mar on Nov. 2. :: Bet Santa Anita with confidence! Accuracy led throughout the maiden race and was not urged in the final furlong by jockey Umberto Rispoli. “It was a big performance,” McCarthy said. Accuracy had her third start on Saturday. She was third in a maiden race at 6 1/2 furlongs at Del Mar in her debut on Aug. 3 and third in her first start around two turns in a maiden race at a mile at Del Mar on Aug. 29, when she earned an 84 Beyer. “I like that she had a few extra weeks between starts,” McCarthy said of the more than seven-week gap from Accuracy’s second race to Saturday. McCarthy said he will seek an allowance race later this fall for Accuracy. “I’d like to try something like that,” McCarthy said. “Then, we’d have all kinds of options.” Accuracy is owned by Mike Repole, who also owns Fierceness. By Arrogate, Accuracy was purchased for $275,000 as a yearling at Keeneland in September 2022. She is out of Bickersons, a two-time stakes winner who earned $257,485. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering? Check out DRF's Handicapping 101 and Wagering 101 pages.
