Maid of the Mist: Capeside Lady wins by neck

Capeside Lady ($2.80) overcame a stumble at the start and a stubborn Schemer to win by a neck in the $100,000 Maid of the Mist for juvenile fillies. Clarksburg Queen finished third.

After recovering from her stumble, Capeside Lady made the lead turning for home. She was overtaken by Schemer in midstretch, but battled back along the rail and stuck her neck in front at the wire. Capeside Lady, owned by So Madcapt Stable and trained by Todd Pletcher, ran one mile in 1:41.37.

"I thought she was a beat horse at the eighth pole," Pletcher said. "I think the start dramatically affected her performance. She won on courage alone."
