Maid On a Mission class of Sunday allowance

A winner of two straight, Maid On a Mission should get the hat trick when she runs in an optional $25,000 claiming race for fillies and mares at Gulfstream Park West on Sunday. The 7 1/2-furlong turf dash drew 11 horses for grass, plus Untrue and Estelle, who will run only if the race gets moved to the main track.
Maid On a Mission, a nine-time winner who is Grade 3 placed, is a standout from a class perspective. She is capable of stalking what should be an honest and contested pace.
Maid On a Mission displayed her versatility in her last two starts, which came in one-mile races on the Gulfstream Park turf course. She set the pace in her victory over Symbol in a $30,000 conditional claiming race Aug. 5, and then came from a stalking position when she repeated in a $25,000 optional-claiming race Sept. 10.
Maid On a Mission drew post 2. After having made her last five starts for Peter Walder, the 7-year-old will be making her first start for trainer Fernando Abreu, who has retained the services of Emisael Jaramillo to ride. The second-leading rider at the meet, he was aboard for her last two wins.
Speed will be provided by the Todd Pletcher-trained Fifth and Madison, who will be running on turf for the first time.
A 3-year-old filly, Fifth and Madison is going to have to deal with other speed, however, most notably Lady Nura and Murray’s Girl.

◗ After not winning while running mostly in stakes, including being eased in the Grade 1 Beverly D. over yielding turf at Arlington Park in 2015, she has regained her confidence with back-to-back wins in her second and third starts this year.
◗ She goes from one good trainer to another; the past two years Abreu has won with 26 percent of his starters coming back within 31 to 60 days.

◗ Trained by Thomas Albertrani, she showed potential last year as a 2-year-old, with a second and a win in maiden special weight races in New York in her first two starts.
◗ After being overmatched by Grade 1 winner Catch a Glimpse in her first race this year, she got off to poor starts at Saratoga in her last two outings.
◗ She runs best from off the pace, and the shape of the race should work for her.
◗ She may have tipped her hand when she worked a sharp four furlongs at Palm Meadows on Oct. 22.

◗ The 3-year-old filly, trained by William Deaton, has improved dramatically in her two races since she came back from a layoff.
◗ With her stalking style, she also won’t mind the likely shape of the race.
