Mahony getting NYRA mutuel post

OZONE PARK, N.Y. - Patrick Mahony has been named vice president of mutuels for the New York Racing Association. He will replace Vince Hogan, longtime director of mutuels who will retire at year's end for health reasons.

Mahony, 56, will report to Jim Gallagher, vice president of parimutuels, who will take on added responsibilities as vice president of regulatory compliance.

Mahony has worked for 36 years in mutuels, mostly in Florida where he headed departments at Hialeah, Gulfstream, and Calder. He will join NYRA after Calder's meet ends Jan. 2. Mahony's grandfather, Mort, headed the mutuel department at Belmont Park and Saratoga when the parimutuel system was introduced in 1940.
