Magnitude to stand at Ashford at end of career

Magnitude, the leader of the older dirt male division through the first half of the year, will stand at stud at Coolmore’s Ashford Stud in Kentucky when he is retired from racing, it was announced in a press release on Tuesday.

Magnitude, trained by Steve Asmussen, will continue to race under the management and in the colors of Winchell Thoroughbreds for the remainder of his racing career. The release did not indicate if Magnitude would be retired at the end of this, his 4-year-old season.

Magnitude, a son of Not This Time, has won four consecutive races beginning with the Grade 2 Clark at Churchill Downs last November. This year, he won the Grade 3 Razorback at Oaklawn Park, the Group 1 Dubai World Cup in March, defeating reigning older dirt male Eclipse Award winner Forever Young, and, most recently, the Grade 1 Stephen Foster at Churchill Downs, where he defeated reigning Horse of the Year Sovereignty.

Magnitude is training toward a loaded Grade 1 Whitney Stakes at Saratoga on Aug. 8, and will face a field that will include Sovereignty, Baeza, White Abarrio, Phileas Fogg, Antiquarian, and the champion filly Nitrogen.
