Magna Graduate wins Razorback

Magna Graduate's class showed in the Grade 3, $150,000 Razorback Breeders' Cup Handicap on Friday, when he drove to a 1 3/4-length win over Student Council in the 1 1/16-mile race at Oaklawn Park. It was another half-length back in third to Jonesboro.

Magna Graduate ($4.40), who removed blinkers for the Razorback, sat about a length off pacesetter Jonesboro, who led the field through an opening quarter-mile in 24.22 seconds. Magna Graduate continued to track that one through a half-mile in 48.20 seconds, and moved closer to the leader on the final turn. He took command at the top of the stretch and went on to cover the distance over a fast track in 1:44.17.

John Velazquez rode the winner for trainer Todd Pletcher.

Magna Graduate earned $90,000 for the win, his eighth from 20 career starts. He has now earned $1,933,950. Magna Graduate races for Elisabeth Alexander.
