Magna 5 hits low payout
The Magna 5 paid a record low of $1,130.40 for a $2 bet to 345 ticket-holders Saturday.
Three of the five winners in the pick five bet were favored, and the other two were second choices. The previous low payoff was $4,657.60 to 103 ticket-holders on March 6.
The bet returned a record high payoff of $205,703 on Feb. 28. The wager requires bettors to select the winners of five races run at tracks owned by Magna Entertainment Corp.
Saturday's winners were Wild Wildcat ($3.80) in the first leg at Pimlico, Memo to Russ ($9.20) at Santa Anita, Commission ($6.20) at Gulfstream Park, Summer Lass ($9.20) at Bay Meadows, and Stage Player ($6.20) in the final leg at Santa Anita.
Wild Wildcat, Commission, and Stage Player were favored.
The bet handled $457,698, the lowest since the bet was launched Jan. 31. On April 3, the Magna 5 handled a record $621,821. Magna guaranteed a pool of $500,000 weekly.
The bet will be offered for the final time this spring on Saturday.
