Magic Spot stays perfect on turf with Campanile win
Magic Spot ($3.40) remained perfect on the turf as she scored her fourth straight victory on grass as she won the $94,000 Campanile in frontrunning style Sunday on the Lakeside Turf Course at Golden Gate Fields.
Magic Spot opened an easy lead early but was challenged by Chati's On Top in the stretch. Chati's On Top, who ran second all the way, closed to within a half-length in the stretch but could get no closer to the game Magic Spot, who was still a half-length in front at the finish line, running 1:36.38 in the one-mile race for Cal-bred 3-year-old fillies.
Chati's On Top held off Global Rule by a neck for second with Shakeitupbetty fourth. The four runners did not change position during the race.
Magic Spot, owned by trainer Hector Palmer and B G Stable, earned $57,000 to increase her bankroll to $179,060. The Papa Clem filly has won 4 of 8 starts.
