Magic Millions sale: Stakes-placed Dysfunction tops final session

DRF Breeding Staff|Jan 15, 2013

With racing or broodmare prospect Dysfunction leading the way, the Magic Millions Gold Coast sale concluded with its final session Tuesday at the Magic Millions Sales Complex in Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia.

The session included a small selection of yearlings, followed by a racehorse and broodmare sale.

Led by Dysfunction, who sold to Heinrich Bloodstock for $82,500 in Australian currency, or about $87,160, the racehorse session included 87 horses sold for total receipts of $866,950 Australian, or about $915,889. The average price was $10,528, while the median finished at $5,546.

The yearling session included 43 sold for a total of $247,213, an average of $5,749 and a median of $4,226.

"It was pleasing to see buyers from around Queensland as well as New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia and Western Australia as well as from Korea and New Zealand," Magic Millions Managing Director Vin Cox said. "Today's sale brings to a close a successful Gold Coast yearling sale where strong figures were returned across most sections. As it the case every year, [this] sale is sure to prove the sale venue of many champions of the future."

Dysfunction, a 4-year-old More Than Ready filly, was consigned to the session as part of the unreserved reduction sale of Patinack Farm. The filly will now return to the track and will be trained by Gillian Heinrich before ultimately joining the broodmare band at Darlington Stud.

Dysfunction, a winner of one of 11 career starts and $41,460 to date, finished second in the Calaway Gal Stakes as a juvenile. The filly is out of the stakes-winning Flying Spur mare Vignor, a half-sister to eight other winners, including Group 3 placed Domielle.

Tuesday's highest-priced yearling was a Hidden Dragon colt purchased for $29,582 ($28,000 Australian) by an undisclosed client from Queensland, with Magic Millions acting as agent.

Consigned by Rosari Farms, the colt is out of the Align mare Analign, whose only foal to race is a winner. Analign is a full sister to Group 3-placed Little Arrow, as well as a half-sister to Group 3 placed Bowhunter and stakes placed Commendable.
