Madman Diaries romps in Victoria at Woodbine

ETOBICOKE, Ontario - Madman Diaries ($4.40) blew away his five opponents in Saturday's , the first 2-year-old stakes of the Woodbine meet.

Brock N Rock outran Madman Diaries for the early lead in the five-furlong dash, through an opening quarter in 21.57. Madman Diaries came through an opening along the rail on the turn, and then drew away in the stretch to prevail by 9 1/4 lengths, in a time of :57.26. Second choice Affluence finished third, and Firepole was a distant fourth.

Jeff Sanchez rode the winner for owner/trainer/breeder Wesley Ward, who collected $90,000 in the gelding's stakes debut. Madman Diaries broke Woodbine's 4 1/2-furlong Polytrack while winning his maiden May 9.

* Moonlight Beauty ($11.30) notched her first stakes in Saturday s supporting feature, the $102,000 Zadracarta. With Chantal Sutherland aboard, Moonlight Beauty ran seven furlongs on the grass in 1:21.91 in the race for Ontario-bred fillies and mares.
