Madefromlucky gets class relief in Stymie Stakes

OZONE PARK, N.Y. – After unsuccessfully tangling with some of the top older males on the East Coast in the Grade 1 Donn Handicap at Gulfstream Park, Madefromlucky should find the company more to his liking Sunday in the $125,000 Stymie Stakes at Aqueduct.
Madefromlucky, a two-time graded stakes winner at age 3, meets five rivals in the Stymie, run at 1 1/8 miles. None of the other entrants has won a graded stakes race.
In his most recent start, Madefromlucky, trained by Todd Pletcher, finished last, 11 3/4 lengths behind stablemate Mshawish, in the Donn.
“He got stuck down inside, which he doesn’t seem really fond of,” Pletcher said. “He never cleared himself off the inside.”
Madefromlucky, a son of Lookin At Lucky, will have to work out a trip from post 2 under Irad Ortiz Jr.
Trainer Rudy Rodriguez sends out the uncoupled entry of Dontbetwithbruno and Our Caravan.
Dontbetwithbruno was claimed by Rodriguez for $35,000 from Pletcher and Mike Repole last December. He won a second-level allowance race Jan. 30.
Our Caravan, claimed for $62,500 by Rodriguez and owner Michael Dubb last October, won for that same price tag Dec. 12 before finishing second to Indycott in an optional claimer Jan. 29. Indycott, trained by Danny Gargan, also is in this field.
Turco Bravo, who won last year’s Stymie as the longest shot in a nine-horse field, and Stormin Monarcho, who won the Mr. Sinatra Stakes here last year as part of New York’s inaugural claiming championships, complete the field.
