First post 8:15 a.m. Eastern; Fillies Mile post time 10 a.m. Eastern.

The Group 1 Fillies Mile on Friday at Newmarket in England should come down to a rematch between Lyric of Light and Fallen for You, the one-two finishers in the Group 2 May Hill Stakes on Sept. 9 at Doncaster.

Whichever one of the nine horses entered in the Fillies Mile comes out on top will earn an automatic fees-paid berth in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf, as well as travel expenses to the race in Louisville. This is the third Breeders’ Cup Challenge Win and You’re In race for the BC Juvenile Fillies Turf in the last month, all of the contests coming outside the U.S.

Lyric of Light, a Godolphin-owned filly by Street Cry and trained by Mahmood al Zarooni, has begun her career with two wins, landing the one-mile May Hill by a neck over Fallen for You after capturing her career debut over seven furlongs at Newmarket. Fallen for You, another Newmarket debut winner, this one trained by John Gosden, appeared to have every chance to win the May Hill but was beaten on the square by Lyric of Light. Both Godolphin and Gosden have been regular participants in Breeders’ Cup races, and it would come as no surprise if the connections of either filly accepted the BC-related benefits offered in the Fillies Mile.

Among the others in the race, Firdraws could take some measure of support. An unlucky second in her career debut at Newbury, Firdraws was a two-length winner of a 17-runner Salisbury maiden race on Sept. 1, drawing away decently in the final half-furlong. Her owner, Sheikh Hamdan al Maktoum’s Shadwell Stables, is the sponsor of the Fillies Mile.
