Lynch wins Pimlico riding title
A year ago, Fergal Lynch finished in a three-way tie for leading rider during the 12-day Pimlico mini-meet. On Sunday, he won the title outright.
Lynch, 39, rode nine winners at the meet, two more than both Horacio Karamanos - who also tied for last year's meet lead - and Rosario Montanez. Lynch scored riding triples on both May 13 and 24.
"The meet just really went well," Lynch said. "Everything clicked into place. I'm very grateful to all the owners and trainers and everybody that helped me through the meet. We shared the title last year, so it's nice to win it outright."
Lynch is represented by agent Scott Silver.
Mary Eppler, Kieron Magee, and Jerry Robb tied for leading trainer at the meet with five wins apiece.
Magee held a one-win advantage coming into closing day but finished second with both of his starters. Robb won the opener and Eppler won race 8.
Magee has now won or tied for four of the last five Pimlico training titles. He won the title outright in 2014 and 2016, and tied for first a year ago with Graham Motion.
Magee and Eppler are both stabled year round at Pimlico.
