Lukas, Stevens will team again in Risen Star
RACE REPLAY IS NOT AVAILABLE
HOT SPRINGS, Ark. – Trainer D. Wayne Lukas and jockey Gary Stevens, whose Triple Crown wins together include the Kentucky Derby with Winning Colors and the Preakness with Oxbow, will team for the Grade 2, $400,000 Risen Star on Feb. 17 at Fair Grounds.
Lukas said Bravazo is being pointed to the race following his Jan. 13 allowance win at Oaklawn. Bravazo, under Stevens, rallied from off the pace for a neck win. Last year, the horse ran second in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Futurity at Keeneland.
“I think he will relish the long stretch at New Orleans,” Lukas said.
Bravazo is by Awesome Again and races for his breeder, Calumet Farm.
Tiger Moth to Azeri?
Tiger Moth, who earned a career-high Beyer Speed Figure of 93 for her last-to-first win in the Grade 3, $400,000 Houston Ladies Classic on Sunday at Sam Houston, was to return to her Fair Grounds base Monday but could make an appearance at Oaklawn.
Trainer Brad Cox said plans are being determined with owner John Gunther and his daughter, Tanya, with one local option being the Grade 2, $350,000 Azeri on March 17.
◗ Oaklawn has lifted its ban on horses from Belmont and Laurel that had been imposed after positive tests for equine herpesvirus at those East Coast tracks. Those horses have since tested negative and quarantines have been lifted.
