Lukas mulling plans for Sporting Chance

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Hall of Fame trainer D. Wayne Lukas said he is thinking about whether to run his latest Hopeful winner, Sporting Chance, in the Oct. 7 Breeders’ Futurity at Keeneland or just go straight into the Nov. 4 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile.

“Either way, he’ll only be going two turns now,” said Lukas. “That’s why he won’t run in the Champagne.”
The Champagne Stakes is run at a one-turn mile at Belmont on Oct. 7.
Sporting Chance was the record eighth winner of the seven-furlong Hopeful for Lukas and the third for owners Robert Baker and William Mack. If the Tiznow colt runs in the 1 1/16-mile Breeders’ Futurity, he will get a rematch with Dak Attack, who defeated him in a key Churchill maiden race on June 15.
