Lucky Folie will skip Breeders' Cup to await Desi Arnaz

Lucky Folie, third in the Surfer Girl Stakes on turf Oct. 10, will not start in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf at Keeneland on Oct. 30.

Trainer Richard Mandella said he plans to start Lucky Folie in the $100,000 Desi Arnaz Stakes for 2-year-old fillies at seven furlongs at Del Mar on Nov. 15. Lucky Folie finished second in the Surfer Girl Stakes at a mile on turf but was disqualified and placed third behind Mirage, who was checked in the stretch.

Mandella said Lucky Folie did not show enough in the performance to justify a trip to Kentucky.

“I think she needed to win for us to do that,” he said.
