Lucky Folie on fence for Starlet Stakes

DEL MAR, Calif. – Lucky Folie, who won the Desi Arnaz Stakes for 2-year-old fillies last Sunday, could come back in the Grade 1 Starlet Stakes at Los Alamitos on Dec. 12 or simply await the Santa Anita winter meeting, according to trainer Richard Mandella.
“We’ll have to think about it,” Mandella said. “We could give her a chance in that race, but there are a lot of nice races at Santa Anita.”
Lucky Folie, by Distorted Humor, has won twice in three starts, both times in sprints at Del Mar. Her lone loss came when going two turns on turf in the Surfer Girl Stakes at Santa Anita on Oct. 10, when she crossed the wire second but was moved back to third after interfering with a rival in the stretch.
That loss prompted Mandella to abandon plans to try the Breeders’ Cup. “That would have been too much for her,” he said. Instead, Mandella regrouped and focused on the Desi Arnaz.
